Corissa contacted us a few months ago about schedule a fun shoot with just her and her husband Kris...just because. I LOVE these kinds of shoots! I appreciate when people take the time to schedule a shoot "just because" so they can have that time in their lives captured.
Corissa also came to one of the LYON-SHOP classes and it was funny because I didn't put two and two together that she was the same "Corissa" that had scheduled an upcoming shoot. I felt like a total dork when I came to the realization after that LYON-SHOP was over, I had to apologize, she just laughed it off, it was pretty funny!

I remember when Nicole and I were kid sisters together, pretending to be sumo wrestlers on our parents' bed...LOL! Then, it seriously feels like yesterday, she met the man of her dreams and got married! NOW, my Pickle (Nicole) and Jeff are about to have a little baby girl! I can hardly stand it, I'm full of so much excitement I might just explode!

For fellow photographers:)
1.We sell and design all of our albums in "spreads", this mean left side to right side (so essentially a spread is actually two pages).
2.We don't do any wording on the cover, the only wording you'll ever see is on the first spread with the client's name and date of wedding...we like to keep it simple! Remember that less is more!
3. For the page layouts, we keep it minimal. Each image should tell it's own story, so we don't like to over crowd the pages with too many images.
4. We don't like to use any drop shadows! We're really going for more of an art-book/high fashion type look. We have a few fashion books we've collected from Dior and Dolce & Gabbana and there's not one drop shadow!
5. We like all of the image lines to match up, look below and you'll see what we mean.
6. When designing the spreads, we try to keep in mind the "story" that each spread is telling and this what is helpful when grouping the images together.
Here is one of our favorite album designs to date! It is an 11x14 album, vertical, with 26 spreads.
Since there is a fold down the center of each spread, we are VERY cautious to not put faces or anything super important right on that folded line. In this spread below, the center folded line goes right down the left shoulder of the groomsman just four people over from the bride and groom.
We have to give a quick "high five" to our awesome album company that we do all of our printing and binding through: Renaissance Albums, you really are the best!

Question.....do you choose the images or does the client? What do you cap it at? We also avg the same album size/spreads as this example so I am curious who chooses the images and how many you/they chose for an average album. Wonderful layout, love the clean and modern style. Thanks for sharing, always helpful. Blessings
(03.25.10 12:36 PM)
amelialyon said:
Kellan, I actually let my clients choose their own images and I usually have them choose double the amount of spreads they are purchasing. So for example, if they have a 25 spread album they want, then I have them choose about 50 images. If they want more then they need to be open to purchasing more spreads. Hope this helps! If you show them a simple design upfront then they will understand why they only get to choose 50 images rather than 100!
(03.25.10 12:42 PM)
Kellan said:
THANK YOU! Exactly what we needed to know. My husband and I have this debate all the time on who should choose and how many. It's hard for the client to understand sometimes that LESS is definitely MORE! Appreciate the quick response.

Heather + John were married on February 20th at the Center Club in Costa Mesa. I loved the classic look of their wedding day and the venue just added to that. Justin and I showed up to the Hyatt in Huntington Beach to catch some pre-ceremony shots and the first thing I discovered when I walked into Heather's suite were the mounds of scattered yellow rose petals John had left for her earlier that morning. It was a fun detail that started the day off on the right foot.
I give you Mr. & Mrs. Stratman!
My second favorite shot of the day!

It's that time agaaaaaaain!:) After the super-duper fun LYON-SHOP we did in Las Vegas on March 6th, we have been super anxious to announce another one!!! Grab the seats while they're still hot to grab! Come spend a crazy day on May 18th in Santa Ana, CA with Justin & I learning all you can about how we do what we do! See the details below. Also, I've included a recap on the Las Vegas workshop below as well, so keep scrolling down.
Click here to view our official LYON-SHOP site!

One of the coolest parts about the penthouse suite is that it was up super high and it had a spa on balcony!
We had our beautiful friends Mark Brooke & Candice Brooke model for us. We were also able to get a fun wedding dress from Allyse's Bridal there in Las Vegas, I fell immediately in love with this particular style that Candice is wearing below.
Our first shoot of the day covered: interacting with you client, posing, creative use of available light, and the use of different lenses.

I MUST give a huge shout-out to Lyndzee of Lady Vintique for making the most amazing head pieces and accessories to complete Candice & Mark's look for our shoots that day!
We had the funnest group of people out that day, thank you to all of the attendees for coming out to learn from us, we feel super blessed to have had such a great day with all of you!
Our second shoot covered: more creative posing, off camera lighting, and working with your surrounding environments.
If you would like to reserve a seat for the next LYON-SHOP for May 18th in Santa Ana, CA email amelia@amelialyon.com as soon as possible!
We held our last LYON-SHOP in the fabulous city of Las Vegas at The Palms. Justin used his mad producing skills and hooked us up with one of the penthouse suites there, it was a pretty rad space!
Thanks again to everyone who made it out!
We also would like to take a quick minute and recognize our fantastic sponsors:
